Description
Football for Coaches and Fansby Glenn Scobey "Pop" Warner. Hardbound book is good original condition, please see photos. Outside cover shows some wear. It has someones name in ink on inside cover. There are 205 pages, published in 1927. No markings or damaged pages. Numerous illustrations. Warner coached several college teams, most famously Carlisle, which included Jim Thorpe. When this book was published in 1927 Warner was coaching Stanford. The colleges he coached were Cornell, Carlisle, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Temple and San Jose State. He officially retired in 1940 and died in 1954.
Warner is credited with inventing the the single and double wing formations, the three-point stance, and the modern blocking technique as well as introducing several plays, including the trap play, the bootleg, the naked reverse and the screen pass. He was among the first to use the huddle and to number plays. The Pop Warner Football Conference in named in his honor.
