Description
Offered is an ORIGINAL FULL PAGE 154-year old baseball print from Harper's Weekly of the "Champion Nine Of The Union Base-ball Club Of Morrisania, New York" (in the Bronx, which was not yet annexed officially to New York City). From the October 26, 1867 issue of Harper's, page 684). The full page measures 11" x 15 1/2" and the team image is on the top half of the page (the lower portion is "Mrs. Lincoln's Wardrobe On Exhibition In New York"). In excellent condition, lightly toned as expected, and this print was professionally hand-colored at an earlier time; the coloring is historically correct for the Unions uniforms at that time. The Unions of Morrisania were one of the top teams of the pre-professional era of baseball, having been founded in 1855. At this time, they were members of the National Association of Base Ball Players league; in 1867, they had a league record of 21-8 and defeated the Brooklyn Atlantics 14-13 on October 10 for that league's championship. There were several prominent players on the team including catcher Dave Birdsall, pitcher Charlie Pabor, Al Martin and others. SEE THE SCANS AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE CONTINUING. This is an ORIGINAL 1867 PIECE, not a reprint or reproduction. See our other listing for more original 19th century baseball prints. Combinable shipping on multiple purchases. Thanks for viewing!
